We are working to make birthdays a little happier for children whose birthdays are in danger of being overlooked. Through volunteers and donors, we assemble birthday parties packaged in a container about the size of a shoe box.
The Birthday Box containers are filled with the basics for a birthday celebration: cake mix, icing, candles, plates, and napkins. The boxes are then rounded out with little treats (cookies, candy, small toys, notebooks, stickers, or whatever creative and fun thing fits) and a small gift for the birthday child. Last, but not least, every box includes a card celebrating the child’s special day.
The boxes are currently distributed by six children’s advocacy centers and three CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) programs across 18 parishes in South Louisiana. Brooke It Forward delivers boxes to our “Giving Partners.” Counselors and volunteers gift the Birthday Boxes to the children near the time of their birthdays.
The children served by Hope House and the organizations that Alone supports are living in heavy circumstances. Honoring their birthdays is a small, but significant, way to give them a moment to just be a kid. The boxes commemorate more than jus birthdays. The boxes celebrate the spirit of each child. Tender self-esteems are encouraged with the gentle reminder that the world is a better place for the simple fact that they were born. Each child’s uniqueness is celebrated through these special gestures.
A “Birthday Bash” is just our fun way of referring a “box drive.” If you or your group would like to host, please send us a message. There are a couple of ways to set up your drive. We are here to help you plan the best Bash for your group. We want your event to succeed. We’ll support you in organizing, promoting, and completing your Bash. We provide birthday cards and other “birthday swag” to help make your boxes as special as possible. When the boxes are complete, we will help coordinate getting them into the hands of birthday kids!
